How much should AI actually remember about you?
Microsoft is starting to answer that question with an important update to Copilot.
Until now, Copilot has been helpful for one-off tasks. Summarising documents, drafting emails, answering questions. But every interaction has been a clean slate. It doesn’t really remember anything about you, your preferences, or how your business works.
That’s about to change.
Microsoft is introducing memory controls for Copilot. This means you’ll be able to decide what information Copilot keeps, and just as importantly, what it forgets.
You’ll be able to explicitly tell Copilot to “remember this”. And soon, there will be a dedicated memory management page where you can see exactly what’s stored. From there, you can edit or delete anything at any time.
So Copilot can build useful context over time, without taking control away from you.
Why does this matter for your business?
Imagine Copilot remembering how your team structures reports, the tone you use in client emails, or the format you prefer for proposals. Instead of repeating the same instructions again and again, you can get straight to the task at hand.
And if something changes, such as a client detail or a preferred style, you can update or remove that memory instantly.
Microsoft is also expanding how Copilot connects to your files.
Alongside OneDrive, Copilot will soon support Google Drive. This means you’ll be able to ask it to summarise folders, pull insights from documents, or surface key information without opening files one by one. Over time, more services are expected to be added, giving you a more joined-up way to work with your data.
These updates are rolling out across the web, Windows 11, and mobile devices. Some features may be included for free, while others could sit within Copilot’s paid tiers in the future.
The direction is clear. Copilot is becoming more personal, more useful, and more aware of how you work. But crucially, you stay in control.
That balance matters. The more context Copilot has, the more value it can provide. And with clear memory controls in your hands, you can benefit from that without losing oversight.
