Is your team really using AI effectively? Copilot can show you

You’ve introduced AI at work.

You’ve rolled out Microsoft Copilot.

You’ve explained how it can save time, improve productivity, and make everyday tasks easier.

But one question remains.

How do you actually know whether your team is using it?

For many businesses, AI tools look great on paper but end up underused in practice. Without visibility, it’s hard to tell whether Copilot is becoming part of day-to-day work or quietly sitting unused.

That’s where Microsoft’s new Copilot Dashboard feature, called Benchmarks, comes in.

Available within Viva Insights as part of Microsoft 365, Benchmarks gives organisations a clear view of how Copilot is being used across the business.

It shows how many employees are actively using Microsoft Copilot, which applications they’re using it in, and how frequently they return to it. This makes it easier to understand whether AI is genuinely embedded in workflows or still at an early stage.

What makes Benchmarks particularly interesting is the comparison element.

Usage can be measured against similar organisations - whether that’s businesses of a similar size, in the same industry, or within the same region. This allows leaders to see whether their organisation is ahead of the curve or lagging behind when it comes to AI adoption.

Naturally, questions around privacy may arise. Comparing usage data with other organisations could sound intrusive at first. Microsoft states that all external data is anonymised, aggregated, and processed using privacy-preserving models, ensuring no individual or company can be identified.

From a business perspective, this level of insight could be invaluable.

Many organisations struggle to move beyond AI trials. Research suggests only a small percentage of AI pilot projects ever reach full adoption, often due to cultural resistance or uncertainty around how tools should be used. Benchmarks helps remove the guesswork by showing exactly where adoption is slowing and where additional support may be needed.

That visibility does need to be handled carefully. Employees should not feel monitored or judged. This is about understanding patterns, not policing behaviour. When used correctly, the data highlights where teams might benefit from guidance, reassurance, or clearer expectations.

Soon, organisations won’t need to rely on assumptions about AI usage. They’ll be able to see what’s working, what isn’t, and where to focus next.

With Copilot Benchmarks, AI adoption becomes measurable - and far easier to manage.
